Rubber Mats May Prevent A Lawsuit

By Adriana Noton

Many business owners are finding that rubber mats are an effective way to prevent lawsuits brought on by accidents where customers may slip or fall in the place of business.

While you must have customers in order to make money, any time a customer steps onto your property, you are open to the liability of an injury. If the customer slips or falls in your establishment, you may be held responsible for medical bills and for that person's lost wages. By doing anything possible to prevent these injuries, you are protecting yourself and your business. A rubber mat at the business entry can prevent the danger of water being tracked into the building by employees or other customers that causes the next customer to be injured.

Other examples of places where customers could have an accident include the produce section of a grocery store. Think of the danger of one grape dropped by accident. If another customer steps on the grape on a waxed floor, it becomes an immediate fall hazard. Even though you or your employees did not drop the grape, as the proprietor of the business, you can be held liable for the damages from the incident and bills can pile up readily.

Providing the mats at the customer entry and using runners in areas where customers might slip can lower the chance that a customer may be injured.

In many restaurants as well as other businesses, there are areas where floors become slippery from a buildup of oils or greases. Once again, you will find that runners help to prevent an employee from falling and being injured. This can prevent a workmen's comp claim and keep your overhead lower.

You may be able to find a local linen service that offers to replace and clean the runners on a regular basis. At the end of each shift, they can be mopped using a good grease cutting detergent in order to remove all the fat buildup.

Rubber mats can also help to protect floors from ordinary dirt and grime that can be brought in from the outside. This leads to lower costs of keeping an office, store or shop clean. Entry mats can be rolled up and quickly replaced if they are found to be soiled. They can then be cleaned with a garden hose or pressure washer to remove dirt and grime that would have otherwise found its way onto the rest of the floors.

The easy clean option makes the runners an excellent choice for businesses where workers often work outside. Many are available that will trap dirt and mud before it ever enters your building so that the need for carpet cleaning is lowered.

Rubber mats are a simple way to protect your business. Whether they are used at entry ways or in specific sections of the business, they can help to prevent employees or customers from falling and can be used to keep expensive floors clean and free of water, dirt and other debris that may cause a hazard. - 29953
