Are You Feeding High Quality, Nutritious, Healthy Dog Food? If Not, You May Be Slowly Killing Your Beloved Pet

By Scott Hubbard

A high quality, nutritious, healthy dog food is a major factor in the long term health of your pet.

You may be aware of this. Most food that we buy to feed our dogs is extremely low in nutritional value. If you are buying your dog's food in a grocery store or a pet supermarket, you may be slowly killing your dog.

Think about our own health and nutrition. Eating fast food or other unhealthy food is not good for our own health. That type of food will lead to disease and a breakdown in our bodies over time.

You can say the same thing about our dogs. A poor diet will result in a higher incidence of disease and a gradual deterioration of their bodies.

Veterinarians are treating dogs for heart disease, kidney failure, cancer, and other degenerative diseases. These ailments were much less prevalent before the introduction of commercial dog food.

True pet lovers want their dogs to live long, healthy, and happy lives. My dog gives me unconditional love even though I many times don't deserve it. They rely on us to take good care of them. I owe my little guy the very best nutrition.

You may have seen a picture of my dog, Romeo, on the internet. I would be happy to send you a picture (I doubt I will get any takers on that). He is a 6-year old mutt. We have fed him very high quality, nutritious, healthy dog food for over 5 years. He is extremely healthy, happy, and sweet. OK, I'm a little biased.

I made a statement in the first paragraph, "you may be slowly killing your dog" if you're not feeding high quality, nutritious, healthy dog food. I know that's a strong statement. Many people feel that way. Read the article "What's Really in Pet Food," published by the Animal Protection Institute. This article includes some very startling information.

According to this article, much of the food we give our dogs is "unfit for human consumption."

The article discusses both meats and grains. You're probably like me. I don't want to feed a dog food that is unfit for human consumption.

Here's something to keep in mind. You can't rely on the ingredient label or the wording on the package to make your dog food selection. Just because the package describes the food as "high quality" or "premium," doesn't mean that it is a quality, nutritious, healthy dog food.

Like I said earlier, a company may produce a fairly nutritious food. But by the time a customer buys it in a store it could be 6-18 months old. The nutrition in the dog food deteriorates the older it gets.

The owner or employee of the store may promise that the food is fresh. Most likely, the person is being dishonest or doesn't know what they are talking about.

The older that bag of food, the more the nutritional value of the food deteriorates. Major causes of this deterioration include bacteria, heat, and mold.

Another major factor in determining a good dog food is the cooking method. It is best that the food is cooked at a low temperature and for a short period of time. If you find a food that that claims it is high in nutrition but is cooked at a high temperature or for a long period of time, most of the nutrition has been destroyed.

So here is what I recommend in finding a good dog food:

1. As I have already said, the food should be cooked at a low temperature and for a short period of time.

2. Make sure that the food is cooked at a low temperature and for a short period of time.

For example, water is removed from the chicken to form chicken meal. So if you see "chicken meal" as the first item on the ingredient label, you know that there is a lot of chicken in the product. If "chicken" is listed as one of the top ingredients, it may be much lower on the list of ingredients when the water is removed. The manufacturer may be trying to mislead the consumer to think that chicken is one of the top ingredients.

2. Make sure that the food is very fresh. I have found that the best and freshest dog food comes from an online source that delivers a very fresh, nutritious, healthy dog food to your doorstep.

3. Check out the cooking methods. The food should not be cooked at a high temperature or for a long period of time.

4. The dog food should contain no corn, no wheat, no dairy, no artificial colors, no artificial preservatives, no steroids, and no hormones.

Providing a high quality, nutritious, healthy dog food will help your pet live a long, healthy, and happy life. That's what I want to do for my little fellow. - 29953
